120+ Best Playgrounds in Maryland (2023)

Looking for the best playgrounds in Maryland to take your kids? You’ve come to the right place — because I live in Maryland, — and I’ve spent quite a bit of time there and and I’m going to highlight the best Maryland playgrounds for you.

Playgrounds can be so much fun outside especially when the weather is great. Parents can enjoy the warmth of the sun and fresh air while their children climb, explore, and let out their energy. Myself, my husband and my 3 kids have been to hundreds of prison since they were born and have had fun exploring all of them.

I decided to create this extensive list of the best playgrounds in Maryland to make it easier on you to find one. You’ll find these playgrounds separated by counties, so you can easily find the ones closest to you. I have actually been very shocked how amazing a lot of these county playgrounds are.

Some of course are better than others, but it is fascinating to see how far playgrounds have come in terms of amenities and creativity.

120+ Best Playgrounds in Maryland

Anne Arundel County Best Playgrounds in Maryland

In Anne Arundel County, you will find a few playgrounds and parks that your children will absolutely love. A few of my favorites are shared below.

1. Davidsonville park

It’s a very popular park amongst local residents in the area. They also often hold soccer, lacrosse, and football tournaments here for kids. The Patapsco river is also accessible from this park plus it even has a small lake with lots of parking.

There are port-a-potties located around the park. The playground here is quite small though with only a few swings and one structure.

2. Downs Park, Pasadena

This park has another newly renovated playground with lots of cool features. Downs Park is located in Pasadena and is one of the best playgrounds in Anne Arundel County! There is a small fee of $6 to enter this park. It is also one of the state parks in Maryland.

Here you will find two big-play structures. One is best for smaller kids, and the other is for those who love climbing adventures. There is also a big balance board, swings, slides, climbing hexagons, and plenty of grass to run around.

This one also has access to the beach, so you can enjoy a peaceful stroll after your family enjoys the playground. We had an amazing time when we went to Down’s park!

3. Fort Smallwood Park

This park is near the Riviera Beach and Pasadena. There is a fee to enter since it’s a state park. The park has some nice picnic areas with spaces for grills perfect for a summer afternoon. It also has a boat ramp for small boats.

The park has a nice playground, although it’s not very well maintained as several times, swings are broken or the mulch is not replaced. There is a small fee of $6 to enter this park.

4. GORC park

It’s a nice park in Odenton with great fields and a nice playground. It was recently renovated and the new playground looks really cool. Check out our experience at GORC park.

5. Kinder Farm Park

Kinder Farm Park is another massive park filled with plenty of fun, family-friendly activities and has a pretty big playground. There is a small fee to enter this park.

One of the fun things to do at Kinder Farm Park is to visit the actual kids petting farm and see the animals! But, the playground is quite fun too. It has been recently renovated and has a Tot Lot for the younger kids and a regular playground area for older ones. We always have a great time when we visit.

This playground has a multi-level design that is pretty awesome. There are slides connecting each section for kids to make their way through every layer, one at a time. You’ll find swings at the bottom, the middle level has ropes and climbing structures, and the top is more like a traditional playground.

6. Lake Waterford Park, Pasadena

At Lake Waterford Park, located in Pasadena, your kids will love playing at this park with all it offers. The playground at this park is pretty huge and has a fence around it.

Kids of all ages will have so much fun climbing, sliding, swinging, and zipping all over this playground. You could easily spend a few hours here one sunny day.

This is one of my family’s favorite playgrounds in Glen Burnie, MD. it has a 12-acre lake for relaxing, fishing, basketball, hiking along the trail etc. It is also a free park, it does get a bit crowded on weekends so we tend to go during the week if we can.

12. Thomas Dixon Observation Area (Airplane Playground)

It is located next to the BWI airport and this makes it the perfect spot to watch planes land. There is a little playground there where you can take your kids to play while waiting for planes.
